ECOCOMPOSITES Cluster at the Sardinia Symposium 2025
On 14 October 2025 (11:00–12:30), the Sardinia Symposium 2025 – 20th International Symposium on Waste Management, Resource Recovery and Sustainable Landfilling, held in Cagliari, Italy, will host the workshop “Circular Plastics and Advanced Composites.”
The session is co-organised by FOREST’s sister project REPOXYBLE, part of the ECOCOMPOSITES Cluster, together with BOKU University and the RETURN project.
The workshop will explore innovative approaches to enhance the circularity, recyclability, and sustainability of plastics and advanced composites — materials that are essential for achieving climate neutrality but still pose challenges for recycling and end-of-life management. Participants will discuss circular business models, Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles, and technological solutions for composite recycling and waste management.
The agenda includes case studies from RETURN and REPOXYBLE, featuring:
• the design and testing of compostable packaging materials and the assessment of bioplastics biodegradability, and
• chemically recyclable bio-based epoxy systems for high-performance applications in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
The ECOCOMPOSITES Cluster, which brings together several EU-funded projects including FOREST, will also be featured through a joint poster presentation highlighting the cluster’s shared vision for circular and recyclable composite materials.
Online participation is available by contacting the organizers at info@sardiniasymposium.it.
Further information and the full agenda are available on the REPOXYBLE website.
As members of the ECOCOMPOSITES Cluster, we are proud to see our sister project REPOXYBLE leading this discussion on the future of circular plastics and advanced composites — a topic central to the FOREST project’s mission to develop sustainable and recyclable bio-based materials.
