FOREST at JEC World 2026: Meet the Speakers

The FOREST project will be represented at JEC World 2026 by two expert speakers who will contribute to the project’s dedicated technical sessions focusing on sustainable composite materials for transport and electromobility. Their presentations will reflect research and development activities carried out within the EU-funded FOREST project and address lightweight, circular, and high-performance material solutions.

The FOREST sessions will take place on 10 and 12 March 2026, both starting at 10:00, and will be open to all JEC World visitors.

Jan-Marten Sprenger (Fraunhofer IFAM)

Jan-Marten Sprenger is a scientist in polymer chemistry and material behaviour at Fraunhofer IFAM. He is currently finishing his PhD in process engineering at the University of Bremen. His work focusses on sustainable biocomposite development, specialising in biobased benzoxazines and recycled carbon fibre composites for mobility applications.

At JEC World 2026, Jan-Marten will present the session “FOREST – Bio-Benzoxazine Composites for Sustainable Electromobility” on 10 March 2026 (10:00–10:20). As part of the EU-funded FOREST project, the presentation will introduce the first bio-based benzoxazine composite developed for the scalable manufacturing of battery cases. Using a compression moulding process, the material can be cured within minutes while meeting application requirements for lightweight design and performance, paving the way for benzoxazine use in the automotive sector.

Fernando Ramos-Saz, PhD (AIMPLAS)

Fernando studied a Mechanical and Materials Engineer degree at the Polytecnical University of Valencia and finished his Master's degree at Ghent University. Obtained his PhD in Engineering by Deakin University working on Plastic Crystal-based composites for CO2 separartion. He has worked as a research fellow in advanced cathode materials for next generation of lithium ion batteries at the Institute for Frontier Materials. He is currently working as a Composite Materials specialist at the Sustainable Mobility and Future department in AIMPLAS (Polymers Research Centre of Valencia). He has published one patent and several peer reviewed articles in international journals.

During JEC World 2026, Fernando will present the session “FOREST – Sustainable Light-Weighting of Hybrid Pultrudates” on 12 March 2026 (10:00–10:20). The presentation will focus on thermoplastic pultruded laminates made from bio-based PA6 reinforced with hybrid carbon fibres. By combining unidirectional continuous fibres with recycled carbon fibre mats, the developed materials achieve enhanced multidirectional strength, interlaminar toughness, and impact resistance while maintaining axial performance, offering strong potential for structural transport applications

Together, the two speakers bring complementary expertise in composite materials, polymer chemistry, and sustainable mobility, strengthening FOREST’s contribution to the technical programme at JEC World 2026.
